International Jazz Day 30 April

Music of improvisation and collective creation

International Jazz Day raises awareness in the international community of the virtues of jazz as a force for peace, unity, dialogue and enhanced cooperation among people, as well as an educational tool. Many governments, civil society organizations, educational institutions, and private citizens currently engaged in the promotion of jazz music embrace the opportunity to foster greater appreciation, not only for the music, but also for the contribution it can make to building more inclusive societies.

International Jazz Day has had extraordinary successes over the past decade, becoming the world’s largest annual celebration of jazz. It is a global movement, engaging people annually, on every continent, through education programs, performances, community outreach and media coverage.

INTERNATIONAL_DAY : English Language Day 23 April

Celebrating the English language at the UN

English Language Day at the UN is celebrated on 23 April, the date traditionally observed as both the birthday and date of death of William Shakespeare. As well as being the most famous playwright, who wrote in English, Shakespeare also had a huge impact on modern-day English.

Today, every one in four people in the world uses English. English is being used more and more as a way for two speakers with different first languages to communicate with each other.

At the United Nations, English is one of the two working languages, along with French.

The Day is the result of a 2010 initiative by the Department of Global Communications, establishing language days for each of the Organization's six official languages. The purpose of the UN's language days is to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity, as well as to promote equal use of all six official languages throughout the Organization.

Under the initiative, UN duty stations around the world celebrate six separate days, each dedicated to one of the Organization's six official languages.

What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

What is World Book and Copyright Day

World Book and Copyright Day is a celebration to promote the enjoyment of books and reading. Each year, on 23 April, celebrations take place all over the world to recognize the scope of books - a link between the past and the future, a bridge between generations and across cultures. On this occasion, UNESCO and the international organizations representing the three major sectors of the book industry - publishers, booksellers and libraries, select the World Book Capital for a year to maintain, through its own initiatives, the impetus of the Day’s celebrations.

23 April is a symbolic date in world literature. It is the date on which several prominent authors, William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. This date was a natural choice for UNESCO's General Conference, held in Paris in 1995, to pay a world-wide tribute to books and authors on this date, encouraging everyone to access books.

International Mother Earth Day 22 April

When Mother Earth sends us a message

Mother Earth is clearly urging a call to action. Nature is suffering. Oceans filling with plastic and turning more acidic. Extreme heat, wildfires and floods, have affected millions of people. Even these days, we are still trying to get back on track from COVID-19, a worldwide health pandemic linked to the health of our ecosystem.

Climate change, man-made changes to nature as well as crimes that disrupt biodiversity, such as deforestation, land-use change, intensified agriculture and livestock production or the growing illegal wildlife trade, can accelerate the speed of destruction of the planet.

This is the second Mother Earth Day celebrated within the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Ecosystems support all life on Earth. The healthier our ecosystems are, the healthier the planet - and its people. Restoring our damaged ecosystems will help to end poverty, combat climate change and prevent mass extinction. But we will only succeed if everyone plays a part.

[HWPL] Introduction to HWPL Peace Tours of Man-hee Lee: En route to 'End of War and Peace', “Lord, be with us!”

Man-hee Lee, Chairman of Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), is attracting attention for his epochal peace achievements by presenting solutions to peace in the form of the ‘Enactment of an International Law for Cessation of War’ and ‘World Alliance of Religions’. As a veteran of the Korean War, Chairman Lee is encouraging the largest number of people in the history of the global village to join the peace movement, proclaiming, “Let’s create a world without war and pass it on as an eternal legacy to future generations.” From the 1st to 31st peace tours, Korean peace activist Man-hee Lee has brought inspiration and hope to the global village with the message

Chairman Man-hee Lee gathered some of the most prominent legal scholars along his peace tours and launched the HWPL International Law Peace Committee, comprised of 21 legal experts, in September 2015 to commemorate the 1st Annual Commemoration of the WARP (World Alliance of Religions' Peace) Summit. On March 14th of the following year, the HWPL International Law Peace Committee published the 10 Articles and 38 Clauses of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), which serves as the basis for the

'Global Declaration on the Cessation of War and Achievement of World Peace’.

After the DPCW was proclaimed, Chairman Lee's peace tours focused on promoting the DPCW to the international community and on appealing for support. As a result, it has secured the support of 55 African countries and has almost completed all necessary requirements for its enactment and implementation by the United Nations as a UN resolution.

Through heaven's answer to peace, Chairman Man-hee Lee said,

“Let’s create a world of peace without war and pass it on to future generations as an eternal legacy.”

He is inviting the largest number of people in history worldwide to join the peace movement.

Ven. Myeong An

Vice President of the Yeorae Order of Korean Buddhism

To the family members of peace who love peace,

Greetings, I am Venerable Myeong An, the Vice President of the Yeorae Order of Korean Buddhism. First and foremost, I would like to thank HWPL, who is leading the work for peace, for inviting me to today’s event.

There is a saying in Buddhism, “It’s fate even if you just brush collars.” I believe our fate is greater since we have become one family for peace. It seems our relationship is layers deep.

There are many people who doubt peace will be achieved, including religious leaders who work for love, mercy, and peace. However, for me, world peace and the unification of the Korean Peninsula were things that have to be achieved. This is because I have always heard and learned about the desire for peace from In Wang Maha Sangaraja, who is the founder of the Yeorae Order of Korean Buddhism.

In Wang Maha Sangaraja was also a Korean War veteran, like HWPL Chairman Lee Man-hee. He knew firsthand the devastation of war and always practiced his words with action. He declared “One family of the global village,” established “Symbiosis, co-prosperity, and coexistence,” and erected monuments for world peace and the unification of the Korean Peninsula with Venerable Ilbung Seo Gyeongbo. Following this, the Yeorae Order has continued to pray for world peace and the unification of the Korean peninsula.

I believe that connected our hearts, and that is why our connection is so precious. Chairman Lee, who has been working without rest to leave a world of peace to the future generations despite being over 90 years old, reminded me of In Wang Maha Sangaraja, and the family of HWPL who joyfully partake in this work seemed to be united with the Yeorae Order. It seemed we were truly one family in peace.
