International Day of Happiness 20 March

It’s a day to be happy, of course! Since 2013, the United Nations has celebrated the International Day of Happiness as a way to recognise the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world.

😇

Happiness is a fundamental human goal. The United Nations General Assembly recognizes this goal and calls for “a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes the happiness and well-being of all peoples.”

🌱

In 2015, the UN launched the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which seek to end poverty, reduce inequality, and protect our planet three key aspects that lead to well-being and happiness.

🍒

The United Nations invites each person of any age, plus every classroom, business and government to join in celebration of the International Day of Happiness.

DPCW_1038 : Peace vital in education transmission

MWAKA LENGALENGA, Lusaka

KABWATA Member of Parliament Andrew Tayengwa has implored teachers in Zambia to continuously educate and inspire children in a peaceful manner. Mr Tayengwa said that peaceful education plays an important role in young learners. Speaking during the Peace Monument completion ceremony, he said this is a significant step towards spreading the culture of peace in Zambia and beyond.

“The promotion of peace should involve continuous efforts, not one-off events,” he said.

And a peace educator from Kamwala Secondary School, Mary Kapalu, said the monument is a commitment to promote the culture of peace and unity.

“I wish to commend HWPL for the support in the implementation of peace programme initiatives in schools. The

government of Zambia, through the Ministry of Education, acknowledges the changes that have taken place today at

Childhood Joy Academy,” Ms Kapalu said.

The project was initiated by an international peace organisation called Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) in partnership with Childhood Joy Academy (CJA). HWPL Peace Education Department coordinator Katelyn Shim said the monument is made in the form of an open book, with HWPL’s The Declaration of World Peace written on it. Ms Shim said this is a promise that the Peace Monument will be an important page in Zambia’s peace history and will continue.

HWPL : Became the Trigger for Spreading the Culture of Peace

Hyderabad is a rich cultural city in southern India where northern and southern India’s distinct cultural and linguistic traditions meet. However, it has also experienced tragic horrors of religious conflicts and communal riots among the predominantly Hindu and Muslim population, resulting in the loss of more than 300 lives.

To alleviate such a situation and actively develop the culture of peace in a city, the international NGO, Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) erected a peace monument in Hyderabad with the cooperation of IPS International, an educational group. The monument was unveiled during the grand annual day event of IPS International at Hari-Hara Kala Bhavan with the presence of a total of 3,000 citizens from 15th to 17th January 2023.

This HWPL peace monument is the third one erected in India after Noida and Rampur, and it is the 18th HWPL peace monument in the world. HWPL and IPS International conducted the unveiling ceremony of the peace monument for three days with different attendees including politicians, educational and religious leaders, journalists, IPS International students, and their parents. The peace monument has the context of

“The Declaration of World Peace”

engraved, which was declared by Chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL in 2013 calling all heads of state, youth, and every global citizen to work collectively for establishing sustainable peace and the cessation of war.

Ms. Diksha Ranjan, Deputy General Director of WARP Office, New Delhi, India Branch of HWPL, said in her speech that “HWPL Peace monument is a catalyst for creating a new peace culture in India, and it is an important international symbol showing us the firm conviction of HWPL for bringing sustainable peace in the world.

Through the peace monument unveiling ceremony in Hyderabad, we are inspired to unite one in heart. This solidified zeal for a noble cause will lead us to overcome our differences and work together as one to achieve peace and cessation of hostilities and violence.”

The HWPL peace monument will be placed in the IPS International school branch in Tolikchwi, and HWPL and IPS International plan to utilize it for peace education for students and peace exhibition for citizens in Hyderabad.

DPCW_1023 : The meaning of peace is spreading globally from the Philippines

Article 10 of the DPCW, spreading a culture of peace

In line with Article 10 of the DPCW, HWPL is taking a long-term approach to its peace initiatives in Mindanao in order to establish peace as a culture and a common value. To prevent the international community’s support and effort from being thwarted again by war, HWPL is endeavoring to strengthen public awareness of peace in Mindanao and across the Philippines through peace education and interfaith dialogue.

https://www.hwpl.kr/language/en

Civilian peace agreement, determined voice of citizens

In General Santos on 24 January 2014, a civilian agreement was signed for the peace of Mindanao. The signing ceremony, hosted by HWPL and organized by the IWPG and the IPYG, was attended by over 300 residents including politicians, university professors, religious leaders, and students.

Before the audience, Archbishop Emeritus Fernando Robles Capalla of Archdiocese of Davao and Governor Esmael G. Mangudadatu of Maguindanao signed the agreement as representatives to cooperate in ceasing the conflict and building peace.

With this agreement as a starting point, HWPL launched a peace movement to raise public awareness of peace not only in Mindanao but throughout the Philippines, based on the universal principles of mutual understanding, respect, and harmony. Also, civil society sectors such as education, religion, youth, and women are actively engaged in HWPL’s peace initiatives to remove the causes of conflict and strengthen the values of peaceful development.

The 24th of January was declared as HWPL Day, and a monument was established to commemorate the signing of the Mindanao Peace Agreement. Davao City’s museum and public library are exhibiting HWPL’s peace activities. Students from elementary school to college are growing into messengers of peace through peace education, and on 25 May of every year, youth and women participate in peace walks.

Moreover, religious leaders regularly convene at the World Alliance of Religions’ Peace Office to engage in interfaith discussions based on religious texts.

International Day of Women Judges 10 March

Global Judicial Integrity Network

The Global Judicial Integrity Network of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) brings together female judges to learn from each other's lived experiences and provide a source of solidarity. Find out more about the Networks' work.

Women judges and the achievement of gender equality

The representation of women in the judiciary is significant for many reasons. In addition to ensuring that the legal system is developed with all of society in mind, it also inspires the next generation of female judges and motivates them to achieve their goals.

Women in the criminal justice system can act as agents of change and contribute to greater accountability. Women judges bring different perspectives and experiences, strengthening judicial systems. Women in leadership roles help disrupt networks of collusion, striking a blow against corruption.

Women’s representation in law enforcement and judicial institutions has been linked to more effective, victim-centered responses to crime.

By investing in women’s advancement and women justice leaders, we can help ensure that justice is better served and that women and all members of our societies are met with fairness and equality before the law, for the benefit of all.

Only through the active participation of women, on equal terms with men, at all levels of decision-making, we’ll be able to achieve sustainable development, peace and democracy.
