International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People 29 November

In 1977, the General Assembly called for the annual observance of 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (resolution 32/40 B). On that day, in 1947, the Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine (resolution 181 (II))

In resolution 60/37 of 1 December 2005, the Assembly requested the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People and the Division for Palestinian Rights, as part of the observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on 29 November, to continue to organize an annual exhibit on Palestinian rights or a cultural event in cooperation with the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the UN.

The resolution on the observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People also encourages Member States to continue to give the widest support and publicity to the observance of the Day of Solidarity.

World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 20 November

This short film, produced for the 2nd Global High-Level Conference on Road Safety held in Brazil in November 2015, highlights the tragic consequences of the lack of safety on the world’s roads and the urgent measures needed to address this health and development crisis. Road traffic injuries take the lives of some 1.25 million people each year, and are the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-29 years.

Road traffic injuries - leading killer of people aged 5-29 years

The Global status report on road safety, launched by WHO in December 2018, highlights that the number of annual road traffic deaths has reached 1.35 million. Road traffic injuries are now the leading killer of people aged 5-29 years. The burden is disproportionately borne by pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, in particular those living in developing countries.

The report also indicates that progress to realize Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target 3.6 which calls for a 50% reduction in the number of road traffic deaths by 2020 remains far from sufficient.

More than half of all road traffic deaths are among vulnerable road users: pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. Pedestrians, cyclists, and riders of motorized 2- and 3-wheelers and their passengers are collectively known as "vulnerable road users" and account for half of all road traffic deaths around the world. A higher proportion of vulnerable road users die in low-income countries than in high-income countries.

World Toilet Day 19 November

Key messages you should know on World Toilet Day 2022

Safe sanitation protects groundwater. Toilets that are properly sited and connected to safely managed sanitation systems, collect, treat and dispose of human waste, and help prevent human waste from spreading into groundwater.

Sanitation must withstand climate change. Toilets and sanitation systems must be built or adapted to cope with extreme weather events, so that services always function and groundwater is protected.

Sanitation action is urgent. We are seriously off track to ensure safe toilets for all by 2030. With only eight years left, the world needs to work four times faster to meet our promise.

On August 18th, 2022, HWPL (Heavenly Culture World Peace Restoration of Right) hosted the webinar “The Dialogue to promote the Protection of Human Rights in relation to Russia-Ukraine War”.

The webinar was held to raise awareness of the situation of human rights in the war in Ukraine and find the way to protect human rights.

Two human right activists Ms. Sonja Biserko and Ms. Abida Pehlic who have been working on human right issues on the ground for many years gave the main presentations.

Background Information

Russia’s attack on Ukraine stirs disturbance and tension globally and threatens a peaceful future, which all of humanity must build for future generations.

📨

Military aggression against a sovereign state cannot be a solution to any problem, and the perils of such war and violent conflict hit innocent citizens the hardest, including women, the youth, and children. Nothing can repay the lost lives, and the direness of being made refugees overnight cannot be consoled with anything but the cessation of hostilities and peace.

📨

Through this webinar, the speakers presented on how the war has violated the human rights in Ukraine and shared the situation people are facing and some necessary actions which need to be taken to improve the situation.

INTERNATIONAL DAY : World Antimicrobial Awareness Week

18 to 24 November is World Antimicrobial Awareness Week

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines, making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death.

As a result of drug resistance, antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines become ineffective and infections become increasingly difficult or impossible to treat.

A global action plan to tackle the growing problem of resistance to antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines was endorsed at the Sixty-eighth World Health Assembly in May 2015.

One of the key objectives of the plan is to improve awareness and understanding of AMR through effective communication, education and training.

World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) is a global campaign that is celebrated annually to improve awareness and understanding of AMR and encourage best practices among the public,

One Health stakeholders and policymakers, who all play a critical role in reducing the further emergence and spread of AMR.

Namibia & Tribalism “Building the Namibia We Want: The Road to Ending Tribalism”

Date and Time: Thursday, July 28th, 2022, 18:30PM (CAT)

Location: Online (Zoom)

Topics: Namibia & Tribalism

Host: HWPL Gangwon Branch

Speakers:

Hermann Hosabe /Honeb, former Mayor of Henties Bay and Namibian war veteran

Mr. Robert Maseka, Rob Youth Foundation, Founder

Mr. Levy Nyirenda , Regional Focal Point for East and Southern Africa for the UN Group for Children and Youth

Mr. Obyster Muleke, Ministry of Gender

The Webinar was held to raise awareness of the impact of tribalism in Namibia and to educate participants on the history of tribalism and the human rights violations that came about as a result of tribalism.

✩✦✧✩✦✧✩✦✧✩✦✧

Background Information

In 2020, The Namibia newspaper published an opinion piece by Professor Andre du Pisani which pained the narrative that Tribalism exists in Namibia and that it should be dealt with. In the article, the professor wrote that scholars have concluded that ethno-nationalism (read tribalism) is the current reality. It is also said to be an emotive power that has shaped many borders in the past. It remains an unwieldy force which influences political thinking and considerations. This in turn, results in political spasms as we have seen in Namibia.

🍀

A more recent article which was written almost a year later supported his views. This article was published in the New Era newspaper, and it contended that Tribalism and regionalism in Namibia, has created new forms of rivalling societies between the North and South.

Considering the articles mentioned above, participants were invited to engage on the topic of tribalism and consider its existence in Namibia.

World Science Day for Peace and Development, 10 November

International Week of Science and Peace

The International Week of Science and Peace was first observed during 1986 as part of the observance of the International Year of Peace. The organization of events and activities for the week was undertaken as a non-governmental initiative; the secretariat for the International Year of Peace was informed of the preparatory activities and the final summary of events that occurred during the week. The organizers sought to encourage the broadest possible international participation in the observance.

Based on the success of the 1986 observance, the organizers continued their efforts in successive years. In recognition of the value of the annual observance, the General Assembly adopted resolution 43/61 in December 1988, which proclaims the “International Week of Science and Peace”, to take place each year during the week in which 11 November falls. The General Assembly urged Member States and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations to encourage relevant institutions, associations and individuals to sponsor events and activities related to the study and dissemination of information on the links between progress in science and technology and maintenance of peace and security; urged Member States to promote international co-operation among scientists and required the Secretary-General to report to the General Assembly as its forty-fifth session on the activities and initiatives of Member States and interested organizations in connection with the week.

The annual observance of the International Week of Science and Peace is making an important contribution to the promotion of peace. The Week encourages greater academic exchanges on a subject of universal importance while also generating greater awareness of the relationship of science and peace among the general public. Based on observances of Science and Peace Week to date, it may be expected that participation each year will increase, contributing to greater international understanding and opportunities for co-operation in the applications of science for the promotion of peace throughout the year.

Partnerships

EU-UN Partnership on Land and Natural Resource Conflicts

Six United Nations agencies and departments (UNEP, UNDP, UNHABITAT, PBSO, DPA and DESA), coordinated by the UN Framework Team for Preventive Action, have partnered with the European Union (EU) to help countries identify, prevent and transform tensions over natural resource as part of conflict prevention and peacebuilding programmes.

Global Research Programme on Post-Conflict Peacebuilding and Natural Resources

The Environmental Law Institute (ELI), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the Universities of Tokyo and McGill initiated a global research programme to collect lessons learned and good practices on managing natural resources during post-conflict peacebuilding. This four-year research project has yielded more than 150 peer-reviewed case studies by over 230 scholars, practitioners and decision-makers from 55 countries. This represents the most significant collection to date of experiences, analyses and lessons in managing natural resources to support post-conflict peacebuilding.

Human rights issues such as wars, gaps between the rich and the poor, discrimination, and sexual exploitation of children and women, which still Bexist, are destroying world peace. In such an era, educators from Africa are not just longing for peace, but are carrying out their role in their respective positions to contribute to peace.

They teach the value of peace to their students and methods to achieve peace by helping the students understand the root cause of conflict. In doing so, they are helping the students grow up as citizens of peace who contribute to world peace.

The peace educators have completed their study in the 12 lessons of the HWPL Peace Education in about a year from April of 2021, and they are ready to teach peace to the students. At this completion ceremony, they signed the HWPL Peace Educator’s Pledge and had time to pledge their mission as peace educators.

DPCW_1038 : The Power of My Voice

Visiting Czech High School Students Through

 “The Power of My Voice”

Relay Exhibition

The Power of My Voice” exhibition was held at two high schools in the Czech Republic, attracting more than 750 students and teachers. With the same theme as the one held at the Senate in Prague last March, this exhibition was held from May 9 to 13 at Eliška Krásnohorská High School and from September 12 to 23 at Sedlčany High School in the Czech Republic.

#CZECH

The high school relay exhibition was designed to raise citizens’ awareness of social problems that the Czech Republic is currently experiencing, and to promote the importance of civic engagement and civic participation for social development. In addition to the existing art exhibition, a discussion forum to communicate with high school students by inviting senators or government officials was also held.

#DPCW_1038

Earlier in May, about 450 students and school officials attended the exhibition held at Eliška Krásnohorská High School, and on the 26th, a special guest speaker, Senator Tomáš Třetina of the Czech Republic, had a day of discussion with about 50 students. Rep. Tretina actively shared opinions on civic participation with students, and once again emphasized the importance of voting and paying attention to social issues to have a civic voice.

#HWPL

One of the students who viewed the exhibition said during the interview, “I liked the part where they talked about the vision of our society because I think that’s the most important part of the future. And, if I had to pick a particular image, I liked the works that expressed freedom the most.”

Another student also commented, “I personally liked the image that showed respect between generations the most, because respect is very important in these times. We must respect the elders, because they have lived longer, and their advice is very valuable in our lives.”

Not long after the exhibition was over, the students inspired by the exhibition drew their own artworks on topics such as cooperation, harmony, depression, anxiety, loneliness, and other important topics in modern society. And with these artworks, the High School of Sedlčany held its own exhibition at the school hall additionally.

On October 25, Senator Petr Štěpánek and about 57 students gathered for the Discussion Day. Senator Štěpánek spoke about the value and significance of democracy achieved in the Czech Republic. Then, there was a discussion time about the political situation, including the current state of democracy in the Czech Republic, with students freely exchanging their questions and opinions.

#WARP_OFFICE

Senator Štěpánek said, “It was a great opportunity to discuss democracy in the Czech Republic with students and listen to their thoughts. It was good because there were a lot of interesting opinions that gave good inspiration.” Deputy Principal Mrs. Lenka Lichtenbergová also commented, “I am very grateful to HWPL for providing students with the opportunity to meet a Senator by having the exhibition and discussion day. I look forward to further cooperation with HWPL in the future, and I want to implement HWPL’s Peace Education at our school.”

#IPYG

In the future, “The Power of My Voice” Exhibition will be held at more high schools throughout Czech Republic to promote the importance of the voice of civil society. We hope that the participation of many citizens will let students not only realize the value of democracy in the Czech Republic, but also lead to the continuation of more diverse peace activities in the surrounding regions.
