Lesson 4. Restoration of Order and Relation in the Human World

Maintaining order is a vital part of ensuring the peaceful co-existence of humanity.

All creations live in grand order.

The order of nature creates a stable environment for all living things to thrive, so when such an order is impaired, it poses threat to all life on Earth.

#EARTH

Hence, it is evident that order within humanity plays a crucial role in protecting the lives of the members, creating a social safety net, and maintaining peace.

When we think about orders within the world such as laws, etiquettes, and rules within companies, they are made so that the members are able to live together in a considerate and respectful manner without harming each other. When establishing an order, various situations and variables need to be taken into account, and once it is made, it is difficult to alter the existing order.

Section 3. The Restoration of Order and Relation in the Human World Restoring undermined order and relation across the globe precedes turning the world into a peaceful place. From establishing order within a person to restoring order and relation at an international level, this part of the lesson examines ways for the restoration to take place and how to convert such ideas into a reality.

#RULES

Hence, building order requires much prudence. However, the hard-built order can be destroyed in an instant with no in-depth consideration involved, since disorder stems from greed.

Careless and selfish acts driven purely by one’s desire lacks consideration of overall balance and selflessness.

Ultimately, lack of order makes fine-tuning the needs of interested parties more arduous, resulting in fragmentation of the society and peace. Hence, “restoration of order and relation in the human world” is necessary for peace to take root. The foundation of order should be a sense of altruism and love, and the purpose of order should be the promotion of safety and peace.

The phrase “修身齊家治國平天下” means, first cultivate self, establish harmony in the family, and govern the country to bring peace to the world. This can be seen as the process of restoring peace and order. Lessons 5 to 12 will explain the steps of establishing peace by restoring order in the human world with the heavenly culture that begins with building order within individuals.

It is by no means easy to restore order and peace.

#PEACE

However, how can a peaceful world be built without struggles and efforts? A peaceful world restored with our blood, sweat, and tears will be a beautiful world for our future generations to dwell in.

International Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members

Protecting UN staff

Since the founding of the United Nations in 1945, hundreds of brave men and women have lost their lives in its service. During the 1990s, the growing number and scale of UN peacekeeping missions put many more at risk.

More lives were lost during the 1990s than in the previous four decades combined.

At that time, an awareness began to develop among Member States and staff, that the more active the UN became in the future, the more it was going to be targeted.

The first resolution on staff security was adopted by the UN Security Council in September 1993.

Complex negotiations subsequently took place in the Sixth (Legal) Committee of the General Assembly on an international legal convention to protect UN personnel.

The result of those negotiations was the Convention on the Safety of United Nations and Associated Personnel, which was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 9 December 1994.

Origin

The International Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members is marked each year on the anniversary of the abduction of Alec Collett, a former journalist who was working for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) when he was abducted by armed gunman in 1985.

His body was finally found in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley in 2009.

The International Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members has taken on even greater importance in recent years, as attacks against the United Nations intensify.

This is a day to mobilize action, demand justice and strengthen our resolve to protect UN staff and peacekeepers, as well as our colleagues in the non-governmental community and the press.

The Efforts of Religious Leaders for a Better World

There are many religious leaders cooperating with HWPL for various peace activities.

🙆

They make up almost 17% of HWPL’s peace messengers, working tirelessly for peace amongst religions through their active participation in the World Alliance of Religions Peace (WARP) Offices’ dialogue of scriptures.

Since the very first WARP Office in Irvine, United States in October 2014, there are currently a total of 253 offices in 129 countries. Each WARP office runs dialogue sessions at least once a month. In addition, there are various educational activities and seminars conducted in the HWPL Religious Peace Camps where civic society joins in to gain a better understanding of the different religions and thus spread a culture of peace in their communities.

🤝

Starting in 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic brought upon an unprecedented challenge to people around the world. Many had to face the daunting reality of overcoming a global, virulent outbreak without any vaccines or viable treatments. Many also lost their loved ones and neighbors, and many also lost their jobs in the midst of diminished economic activity on a global scale.

The peace work undertaken by religious leaders working with HWPL could not avoid these overwhelming changes as well.

WARP offices, religious peace camps and other peace activities had to be moved online and required more ingenuity in reaching out to those in crises and to provide much-needed comfort.

During 2020, HWPL held 27 online peace conferences, big and small, where a total of 522 participants of more than 36 religious affiliations and 92 countries gathered to pray for a quicker end to the pandemic and for the world to be given the wisdom and strength to overcome the struggles and trials.

One noteworthy gathering was held on 14th December, titled, “United Hopes & Prayers for a Brighter 2021.” In this special occasion, a total of 258 participants attended the online prayer conference. 11 religious leaders representing 9 different religions led the participants in prayers according their own religious ways. All who participated prayed with one heart and mind.

♦ ♦ ♦

HWPL WARP Offices were launched to tackle the difficult task of achieving true religious harmony through comparative study of scriptures by religious leaders and scholars. Since its start in 2014, there have been more than 10,000 dialogues of scriptures held. The reason for conducting the dialogues of scriptures whereby panelist discuss and compare the different religious texts is to achieve advanced, substantive discussions and understandings that go beyond superficial harmony and pleasantries.

Participants gain a deeper understanding of each other’s core doctrines, while laying down any unfounded fears that arise from a lack of knowledge of the other, and thus the risk of extremism and coercion. Truth is pursued through deep dialogue and discussions based on each scripture. Through these efforts, we are able to work towards a future with lasting peace which is a common teaching of religions.

Topics mainly covered in the WARP Offices include subjects like all creation in the world, the beginning of Man, creation, end times, scriptures, religion and its history, the use of figurative language, key figures in religious texts and about the world that we are living in.

At this point, we would like to introduce the South Africa Johannesburg WARP Office, which held its dialogue over September and October 2020 with the topic of

"Figurative language in Scriptures.”

In response to the question,

"What is the most misunderstood metaphorical language in your scripture / teachings?” the four religious leaders answered as follows:

International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims (24 March)

The date was chosen because on 24 March 1980, Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero of El Salvador was assassinated, after denouncing violations of human rights.

#Human_ rights

In a study conducted in 2006 the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights concluded that the right to the truth about gross human rights violations and serious violations of human rights law is an inalienable and autonomous right, linked to the duty and obligation of the State to protect and guarantee human rights, to conduct effective investigations and to guarantee effective remedy and reparations.

#UN

The study affirms that the right to the truth implies knowing the full and complete truth as to the events that transpired, their specific circumstances, and who participated in them, including knowing the circumstances in which the violations took place, as well as the reasons for them.

#TRUTH

In a 2009 report on the Right to the Truth, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights identified best practices for the effective implementation of this right, in particular practices relating to archives and records concerning gross violations of human rights, and programmes on the protection of witnesses and other persons involved in trials connected with such violations.

#NO_VIOLATIONS

The Commission on the Truth for El Salvador was established in accordance with the Mexico Agreements of 27 April 1991 to investigate serious acts of violence that had occurred since 1980 and whose impact on society was deemed to require an urgent public knowledge of the truth.

#AGREEMENT_OF_NO_VIOLENCE

In its report of 15 March 1993, the Commission documented the facts of the assassination of Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero by pro-government forces, the so-called "death squads".

He was shot dead by an assassin as he celebrated mass on 24 March 1980.

HWPL statement on human rights crisis in Myanmar

HWPL calls for the ongoing crisis in Myanmar to be resolved peacefully and not through violence.

We, HWPL, along with our members all over the globe are deeply concerned about the harm caused to civilians by the escalating violence in Myanmar. International attention is focused on Myanmar, and history will remember these moments. The situation should be resolved in a just and peaceful way also for the sake of the growing generation, who will learn from this crisis to build their future.

# HWPL

We call on all parties to refrain from repression or force and instead settle the crisis through dialogue and consensus-based on mutual respect and understanding. And we call on the United Nations to take active measures so that the human rights and safety of the people of Myanmar may be protected.

# Myanmar

We ask the global family of peace to issue statements urging authorities and civilians in Myanmar to pursue dialogue and seek a peaceful solution in order to restore peace to the country.

In one voice, HWPL and all our members around the world express hope that the ongoing crisis in Myanmar will be resolved peacefully through dialogue, not violence, and we call on the international community to join us.”
